The African Fashion Forum will take place during the first quarter of 2016, and will form the foundation for Africa Fashion Week going forward.
This means that fashion companies all over Africa has to reschedule their calender and also the change of date will enable them to prepare much well again and to come up with strong strategies to beat other competitors.

Botswana Plus size Fashionistas

Fashion has no boundary regardless what size you are and how you weigh. In Africa they are fashion designers who are there specifically to design clothes for plus size ladies and recently Botswana Plus size Fashionistas Bonolo Oabile and Kelly Khathurima introduced the movement called AFRICURVES to revolve the world of plus size fashion.

Africurves is a perfectly fitting name that embraces african figure that is slammed by many. The movement is pretty much good as it will encourage women who were afraid of rocking out stylish clothes because of their weight to come out with confidence and to wear what they want freely.

AFRICURVES are out there to voice plus size fashion. They did well to represent Batswana women out there.

The Hat

One interesting fashion trend is the hat, they are different types of hat for both men and Women.Every season has its own specific hat even though some people wear the same hat from winter to summer.A hat is an essential item of fashion around the world.

A hat can also bring beauty of the person.Hats are originally made for people to protect themselves from the Sun especially in Africa where the Sun is brutal. In our setswana culture it is not acceptable to greet people while wearing a hat and also a hat should not be worn when eating.
I like hats and I think a man should at least own one or two hats...

CHALLENGES FACING FASHION INDUSTRY IN BOTSWANA

Fashion in Botswana is influenced by cultural aspects like lifestyle and the environment. In recent times due to modernization Botswana has adopted western apparel and it has modified and inspired change in the design of clothing in Botswana. This modernization has made it possible for Batswana to design and make product bound for international market and this has led to job creation.

Even though fashion has created jobs for some Batswana,Botswana fashion designers are still struggling and facing a lot of challenges to become successful designers. Some are still designing clothes from their homes and are unable  to find proper workshops where they can design clothes and other fashion accessories. They are a quite of number of challenges facing fashion industry in Botswana and they are as follows :

  • Small market,Botswana has about 2 million population.
  • Limited resources, include lack of start up capital to buy raw materials and equipment.
  • Quality control measures,we are unable to meet international standards
  • Low rates of recognition since it is new and improving.
But the industry is slowly growing and improving as the government is trying its best to assist fashion designers through youth funding schemes and also now days universities are offering fashion design courses.
